Traditional Vs. Newer Electric AGA Models
If you're thinking about switching to an electric AGA cooker, you might have some questions about whether the newer electric model is right for you. In this article, we discuss the difference and why it might be time for an upgrade.
Traditional AGA cookers have solidified its place in British History as the beating heart of the home. These stylish cookers were designed to be on all the time and emitted a constant cosy warmth to the kitchen. They came either as two, three or five oven models in electric, gas or oil. At the start of this year, however, AGA announced that they would be discontinuing all AGA build-in-the-home products to become more sustainable. This relates to the R5 Series 2, 3, and 4-oven oil and gas traditional build-in-the-home models.
The newer generation of AGA models, also known as the Everyday Radiant Heat range, still retain the iconic beautiful styling of a traditional AGA cooker but now operate solely on electricity as a means to become more energy and cost-efficient than their much beloved traditional counterpart...
Everyday Radiant Heat
The Everyday Radiant Heat range of AGA cookers includes, the AGA eR3 Series and the AGA eR7 Series. These cookers are much more controllable than the traditional models and are designed to be switched on and off as required. These models also provide the opportunity to lower your running costs significantly thanks to fast heat up times and the ability to allow individual operation of ovens and hotplates. For example there is no need to leave hotplates on since they are designed to heat up in 10-12 minutes.

Unlike the traditional models, the AGA eR7 Series has an LED control panel that gives more control over the temperature of its ovens, which offer nine pre-set temperatures. In addition, a remote control handset lets you turn the oven on automatically as needed. The AGA eR7 comes as either a three or five oven model and includes a roasting, simmering and baking oven. Also, depending on which model you go for, you can combine modern fan ovens with cast iron ovens, traditional AGA hotplates and induction hobs all within the same cooker.
24/7 Radiant Heat
However, if you like how your traditional AGA operates then the 24/7 Radiant Heat collection might just be for you. This collection includes the AGA R3 Series and the AGA R7 Series which are designed to always be on and ready to cook. Though these models are expensive to run, they also take place of other household appliances such as heaters, an electric kettle and a tumble drier.

So why upgrade?
Although gas, oil and electricity prices are on the rise this year, making the switch to a newer AGA model will be more cost-effective and sustainable in the long run. Depending on which electric model you choose and how you operate on a day-to-day basis, you can control how much energy you use.

When it comes to maintenance, an oil AGA cooker needs servicing every 6 months, gas needs a service at least once a year and the electric models are recommended to have a check up every 2.5 years to make sure that they are running efficiently. If you have any issues outside of these times though, we have an authorised AGA & Rayburn servicing and breakdown department covering central, southern England.
