In today's world, where sustainability and eco-friendliness are paramount, it's essential to explore innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint while still enjoying life's pleasures. One such pleasure is cooking, and what better way to combine culinary delights with eco-consciousness than by running an AGA cooker with solar panels? In this article, we delve into the world of AGA cooking, sustainable living, and how you can have the best of both worlds as demonstrated by our lovely customer, Lucy.

Why Choose AGA?

AGA cookers are renowned for their exceptional cooking capabilities and timeless charm. They've graced kitchens for generations, becoming the heart of the home for countless families.

Having previously owned a gas Rayburn and an oil AGA, Lucy always harboured the dream of creating a sustainable solar-powered home that could stand the test of time and "having an electric AGA cooker was always part of the concept."

After speaking with us, Lucy took full advantage of the AGA Trade-In & Save promotion and opted for the AGA eR3 110-3i in the stunning Salcombe Blue. She was drawn to this particular model because of its potential for cost savings and the unique lifestyle that it offered.

Lucy explains:

"You can’t beat the warmth of an AGA cooker and the idea of saving on costs was very appealing, as this cooker offers everything I need all in one."

These hybrid cookers mix traditional cast-iron ovens and hotplates with conventional ovens and induction hobs that can be turned on/off as needed. All eR3 models have the option of a programmer and fan induction hob, providing her the flexibility to cook as and when she wants.

The versatility of these AGA cookers, with their ability to provide constant warmth and cook meals to perfection regardless of the weather, was another compelling reason.

Delivery & Installation

Following an on-site survey, our engineers approved the acquisition and subsequent installation of Lucy’s new AGA 3 series cooker.

Utilising the Zonzini electric stair climber, they effortlessly maneuvered through the landscape, including the unfinished veranda, to reach the kitchen. Our engineers then carefully slotted the new AGA in place, ensuring that every element of the of the installation process was meticulously executed. From electrical connections to precise levelling and alignment, no detail was left unchecked.

Lucy's AGA Experience

When asked about her overall experience, Lucy shared, "The AGA has always been the heart of my home, and what I love most about my AGA is its adaptability. I'm able to cook whenever I decide to and prepare a variety of dishes, thanks to the generous oven capacity. Come rain or shine, the AGA cooks beautifully, and my dogs, Jake and Storm, love the cosy radiant warmth it provides."

She continued, "After researching several companies, I stumbled upon Edwards & Godding and had the pleasure of speaking with Caroline, who filled me with ease. She talked about AGA cookers with complete transparency and helped me select the right model for me and my lifestyle. Overall, I found the team at Edwards & Godding to be highly accommodating; they reacted positively to changes and unexpected building delays. Their technical advice and can-do attitude really shone through and made this process so much more enjoyable."

Solar Panels: A Sustainable Twist

The journey towards a greener lifestyle didn't stop at the AGA upgrade. Solar panels entered the picture, offering an eco-friendly solution to power the AGA cooker. The solar panel system, consisting of 8KW panels, has not only made the AGA operation even more sustainable but also cost-effective.

Operating the AGA cooker in different seasons used to be a concern for many, especially during the winter months. However, with modern solar panels efficiently generating electricity even on bright winter days, this worry has been laid to rest. The AGA continues to work its culinary magic, thanks to renewable solar energy.

Cost-Efficiency and Beyond

The financial aspect is always a crucial consideration. With solar panels in place, the monthly operating costs of the AGA are virtually non-existent. Excess electricity is stored in a battery, and any surplus can be sold and exported back to the grid thanks to the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

Choosing solar panels isn't just about cooking with sustainability; it's about embracing a holistic green lifestyle. The homeowner also made energy-efficient home improvements, including insulation and double glazing, and integrated a heat pump to further reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

Lucy notes, "I'm absolutely thrilled with my solar panels and how seamlessly they complement the AGA. I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Greenshop Solar in Bisley and Cotswold Energy, whose installation of the panels and heat pump has turned my dream into a reality."

Summary

In conclusion, the combination of an AGA cooker and solar panels is a match made in sustainable culinary heaven. This solution not only enables you to savour the pleasure of AGA cooking but also minimises your environmental footprint and cuts down on running costs. It’s a win-win for both your taste buds and the planet.

Lucy's experience serves as a shining example, showcasing the seamless integration of modern comforts like AGA cooking with a commitment to sustainability. Opting for the AGA eR3 110-3i alongside an 8KW solar panel system has truly transformed her home into a sustainable sanctuary.
