AGA Owner Review of the AGA R7 Series
One of the best-selling AGA models, the AGA R7, like the eR7, offers its owners flexibility that can reduce running and servicing costs. So, to gain some insight into what it is like living with an AGA R7 Series range cooker, we asked experienced AGA owner, Josie Gavoyannis, what she thinks about her AGA R7 150-5 model...
About the AGA R7 Series
The AGA R7 is an updated version of the AGA Dual Control cooker, which means you can switch the hotplates on and off as needed, whilst the ovens can be set to four different heat settings, including normal, low, high and slumber.
The slumber setting can be used overnight or during the week, to help keep your kitchen warm whilst reducing energy and the extra boost of the high setting is perfect for Christmas, Easter and other big cooking days.
The AGA R7 comes in three and five oven models. The three oven model has roasting, simmering and baking ovens. The five oven model also has slow cooking and warming ovens. Both are ideal options for those looking to upgrade from their traditional AGA.
What are your thoughts on the AGA R7 Series?
"Our AGA (Snowy – named by my niece), is our only source of cooking. It is the beating heart of our home and is on throughout the year, gently ticking away on half-heat until we entertain friends, or our adult children arrive home with a crowd to be fed.
We’ve had oil and gas fired AGAs in the past but the AGA R7 cooker provides the flexibility and versatility that we had been missing. We mainly cook on half-heat in the 3 main ovens, adjusting the rails to find the correct cooking temperatures. The Slow and Warming ovens come into their own when there’s a houseful – keeping plates and serving platters warm, slowly cooking melt in the mouth casseroles and an array of other meat and vegetable dishes.
I love that the AGA R7 radiates a welcoming warmth throughout the kitchen all year round – the family’s go-to room! Our kitchen is at the back of our house and doesn’t benefit from direct sunlight coming in through the windows and we don’t have radiators, so our AGA is so much more than just our source of cooking heat.
She dries our clothes over the rails and trainers in front of the oven doors, keeps our hot drinks warm when the phone rings, warms bottoms and hands after a chilly winter walk and even does the ironing (I fold freshly dried washing on top of the hotplate covers). Snowy truly is a work horse and we can’t imagine our kitchen without her.
Being able to turn the hotplates on together or individually is another energy saving feature that we love. Super speedy to heat up from cold, the hotplates are brilliant for boiling or simmering, but also for fried eggs, drop scones, toasted sandwiches, cheesy tuilles, porridge and everyone’s favourite late night snack, AGA toast!
My husband loves slow cooking Greek Lamb and Greek Lemon Chicken in both the Simmering Oven and the Roasting Oven. My favourite crowd-pleaser is Fish Pie and a seasonal Fruit Crumble simultaneously cooking in the Roasting Oven and Baking Oven."
