The AGA eR7 Cooker (the new AGA Total Control) is on when you need it and off when you don't. It's perfect for busy families, those who are away from home during the day and for those who want to save energy. So, to gain more insight on what it's like living with an AGA eR7 cooker, we asked AGA owner, Caroline, to share her thoughts.

What do you think of the AGA eR7 Series?

"I’ve grown up with AGA Cookers and have owned a few different models myself as an adult and now have an eR7 150-5i. I absolutely love it and it’s far and away my favourite one of the bunch!

My AGA has five ovens, Roasting, Baking, Simmering, Slow Cooking and Warming, along with two hotplates for Boiling and Simmering and a single zone induction hob. The absolute beauty of the eR7 is it can be whatever I want it to be at different times of the year, so in the winter my ovens can be left on and I even pop my hotplates on to warm up my draughty kitchen, in the spring and autumn I tend to leave it on slumber to keep an ambient warmth in the room and just turn ovens up to cook and then during the summer I leave it cold and just pop on whichever oven or hotplate I need.

When I’m cooking for a crowd and have all my family and friends over the AGA copes, with the ovens packed full of food to cater to everyone, when it’s just me, my husband and our three boys for tea quite often it’s the Roasting oven, the induction hob and the Warming Oven (for whoever is home late because of work or clubs) that are used. The eR7 gives me the flexibility for all this, a workhorse of an AGA which is compact and efficient for mid-week supers whilst large and spacious for those bigger occasions.

I love that my husband and I no longer argue about when the AGA needs to be turned off in the summer or back on in the autumn. With our old oil AGA it was a constant battle between me, who’d have had it on all year, and him, who wanted it off from May – October. Now, we turn the eR7 to cold but I still get to cook using the beautiful AGA cast iron ovens for every meal, so there’s no compromising on flavour or having to use a boring built in oven.

The eR7 has some great features, firstly I love the slumber setting which takes all the ovens down to Simmering temperature. It keeps the cold off our kitchen, without being an overbearing heat, and the ovens are up to temperature within 15 minutes when needed.

The Roasting and Baking ovens have different, pre-set, temperature settings which I’ve used much more than I’d imagined I would! I love the fierce heat of the R9 which is great for jacket potatoes and amazing roast potatoes, the R8 is a standard roasting oven temperature but I also find R6 and R7 useful for more gentle heat, ideal for pastry, pies and some roast meats. Both ovens can be set to B4 which is so handy when you’re wanting to cook to feed a lot of people, I’ve found the Christmas party food from M&S handily always needs 180C and is great at the B4 setting!

The eR7 comes with a programmer which allows you to pre-set the times it comes up to temperature each day. As a family we tend to do it all manually, but we do use the programmer if we’re going away, especially over the winter, as it allows you to set the AGA to be back to heat when you walk in the door which is lovely!"
