U Shaped Kitchen with Peninsula

We love this total transformation we’ve recently completed for our customers. Giving space, movement and light to an old, dreary kitchen at the back of a 1920s house.

Our brief was to provide a kitchen with lots of storage space, room to cook and bake, plus some seating so the customers could sit with a coffee and watch the children play in the garden or a glass of wine in the evening while one cooks.

Our customer disliked the original layout of the kitchen and wanted the space to flow more. We suggested that their back door was blocked up, giving more straight wall space for cabinets and appliances and allowed us to plan a sideways on U shaped kitchen incorporating a peninsula.

The main part of the kitchen focuses on the business of cooking and cleaning up afterwards! We’ve managed to squeeze in a lot in a relatively small space, including two Vzug ovens, a Vzug hob, two large metre wide drawer units, a corner cupboard plus integrated pull out bins, under sink storage and a Miele dishwasher. As part of the peninsula design we’ve placed two more cupboards facing outwards – one is a shorter depth and perfect for storing cookery books whilst the other is a bespoke 800mm deep giving plenty of extra room for all those small electrical appliances. The peninsula also gives a nice large expanse of worktop providing lots of space for preparing food and baking.

On the opposite wall there is a bank of ceiling height units which contain the laundry appliances, a broom cupboard, Liebherr fridge freezer and a full height pull out larder.

The kitchen is now bathed in light as we kept the large window and French doors which lead out onto the garden, and reflected the light and view in the two large mirrored wall cabinets.

The peninsula has a small wooden bar top, made of the same material as the tall units, to tie the two parts of the kitchen together. This spot offers a perfect view out onto the patio and down the garden, as well as central to the kitchen and dining room next door.

The cabinets used in this kitchen are Nordik in Cream Stucco with a Gris Seft carcass, the wall units are Leach Negro Brillo with Matt Black Aluminium finish and the bank of tall units are Grain in Viejo Tinte Panja both of which have an Araujo carcass.

The worktop is Malaga Quartz with a small bar top in Grain. The flooring is Concreate in Mineral White.
