Hot Chocolate

Posted on February 14, 2015 in Ingredients

I am a complete sucker for brown paper packaging so fell in love with this product when I saw it for sale in the Aga Foodhall . So, I thought I’d give it a whirl.

The instructions say to melt the chocolate first before adding the milk. Now, I have to be honest…I almost immediately burnt my chocolate and had to start all over again! So, learning my lesson the second time I heated my milk to just under a simmer and then added 2 chunks of chocolate, allowing them to melt in the warm milk. Once it was given an energetic whisk the chocolate soon dissolved.

I made a fairly basic (if you can call lashings of squirty cream basic) version but you could think about trying some of the following:

Use dark, brown sugar to sweeten your drink for a caramel indulgence.

Add a cinnamon stick into the milk as it is heating for a deep wintery warmth.

Pop in a couple of drops of vanilla extract per mug.

Stir in a spoon of Horlicks for a malty bedtime treat.
