Home-Made Flavoured Popcorn

Posted on April 18, 2015 in Recipes

Saturday night is quite often film night in our house and sometimes I like to really treat everyone with some home-made flavoured popcorn. Here are Chocolate Orange Popcorn, Caramel Apple Popcorn and Icing Sugar Popcorn...maybe try all three or just give one a whirl this weekend.

Chocolate Orange Popcorn

3-4 handfuls of plain popcorn (just put a layer of kernels in a pan with a tight fitting lid, place over a medium heat and wait for the 'pop, pop, pop' sound of the corn exploding)

200g milk chocolate

50g butter

Juice and zest of 1 orange

Break up the chocolate, along with the butter and orange juice and zest, and place in a pan over a very gentle heat. Once the chocolate and butter has melted stir it all together (the acidity in the orange juice will stiffen the mixture slightly) and pour it over your plain popped corn.

Icing Sugar Popcorn

3-4 handfuls of plain popcorn

60g icing sugar

1-2 tbsp. water

Add water to the icing sugar until you have a smooth drizzling consistency, pour over the popcorn.

Caramel Apple Popcorn

3-4 handfuls of plain popcorn

50g butter

50g caster sugar

2 x apples, cut into little cubes

Make a caramel by melting the butter and caster sugar together, then add in the tiny apple cubes for 2-3 minutes to soften slightly and allow the caramel to colour. Once done, mix with the popcorn.
